Christmas Party 2006 |
|

When I was child, the weeks before christmas were spent dreaming of what I may get, and making sure that any elves that may have been listening were aware of EXACTLY what it was I wanted. Unfortunately there are many children out there without elves listening out for what they may want for christmas. With this in mind, we decided to become those elves and started planning a party. Our plan was to invite 80 children from 3 organisations in town: Sunshine Trust, Angel's Home and David's Place. We couldn't do this alone, so we roped in all the help we could get. I would like to thank the following people.
- Peter Joughin, for donating R4000 for gifts. This donation bought the gift requested by each child ( with the except of those who requested radios - we got them shoes), the christmas tree and goodie bags for the end of the party.
- Rainbow Airbridge, for flying down on the day, bringing radios for the children who requested them and shoes for the rest.
- Ferreiras Decor World for arranging a gift from each of their staff members. There was a gift for each child and extras! We decided to save these gifts for christmas morning, and the extras are going to be taken to our creche in Meqheleng.
- The Rotary Club of Ficksburg Imperani for the rolls, tomato sauce and mustard for the hotdogs.
- The Rotary Club of Ficksburg for the drinks, organising the games and face painting
- Both Rotary clubs for help with wrapping the gifts and collecting the pilots from the airport
- Ron and Toni Stevens for the vienas for the hotdogs
- Felix and Barbara Sorour and Vernon Joughin for the ice cream
- Andre and Janet Slabbert for the christmas tree lights and tinsel
In the end David's Place was unable to attend and there were a few children who had left Sunshine Trust, so there were 50 children who attended the party. Each child got the gift they asked for, a pair of shoes and a mystery gift from Ferreiras. The party was enjoyed by all and the kids all left with a bag of sweets and new shoes on their feet. Pictures tell the story better than I ever could so I'll end here. Thanks to everyone envolved in the day.
